What is Kilometres of Plastic for Iris?
A project, led by PFM member’ 0 Plastic Menorca with Ibiza Preservation, Mallorca Preservation and Menorca Preservation’s support, that invites young people from secondary school (12-16 years old), called ‘0 Plastic Warriors’, to organise conscious routes through nature with friends and family with the mission of sharing ideas to reduce plastic pollution on the planet. A collective goal is set to reach 30,000 km walked against plastic among all participants in Menorca, Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera until 30 March 2025 (5th edition).

OBJECTIVES
To reflect on and share solutions and alternatives to the use of plastic in everyday life, while walking kilometers for the cause and collecting the plastic found along the route. In addition, all the participants of Kilometers of Plastic for Iris receive a digital training kit so that during the conscious routes they think of creative solutions and alternatives to reject, reuse, but above all reduce, both at a personal level and at a public or business level.

1 MINUTE FOR YOUR ISLAND’ COMPETITION
The 0 Plastic Warriors living in the Balearic Islands who organise the conscious routes through nature are able to participate in the ‘1 minute for your island’ contest, a 1 minute video competition in which they have the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and creative ideas to win the battle against plastic by answering the question: What would you do to fight against microplastic pollution on your island?
As a novelty of this edition, and after the analysis of the joint initiative carried out between the 4 islands, this year the competition is open to new disciplines in digital format, distinguishing between: visual arts (1 minute video or drawing) and literary arts (story, poem or comic). The aim is to offer greater freedom in the presentation of proposals and to encourage greater participation and creativity.
On the other hand, the 0 Plastic Warriors from other editions will be involved in the promotion of the initiative and contact with the participants through talks and meetings, and a list will be made of the proposals arising from the initiative so that the 3 entities can evaluate the most innovative and most impactful ones.
At the same time, another prize will be awarded to the class that has collected the most kgs of plastic, with the aim of strengthening the collectivity of the initiative and adding a degree of challenge to strengthen participation and involve the schools more vigorously.
The winners of the 1 Minute for your Island competition will have the opportunity to enjoy scuba diving, and the participants who walk the most kilometers will be eligible for kayaking, paddle boarding, boat trips, T-shirts and sweatshirts.
