Plastic Free Menorca launches new video about our PescArt Menorca project
The PescArt Menorca promotional video has been produced thanks to the collaboration of the fishing sector, the arts and crafts guild, Ports de Balears and the Foundation for People with Disabilities of Menorca
PescArt Menorca, the circular economy project promoted by Menorca Preservation through the Menorca Sin Plástico Alliance, has launched a promotional video in which we present the vision and mission of this fishing net recycling project, born in 2020. The informative resource, whose execution has been supported by the Ministry of Social Rights of the Spanish Government and the Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda, as well as the Fundació Sa Nostra and CaixaBank in the framework of the “Convocatoria Medio Ambiente 2022”, comes to continue working towards greater public awareness of the serious environmental problems caused by plastic pollution in the sea.
So far in 2023, thanks to the collaboration of more than 70 fishermen, the initiative has managed to rescue 820 kilos of discarded nets, from which 20 Menorcan artists and craftswomen have managed to create artistic pieces and handmade products and thus recycle more than 160 kilos of fishing nets. Some examples are the tapestries by Magda Triay; necklaces, key rings, earrings, bags and purses by Júlia Triay – Artespai; candle-holders and flowerpots by Scøne; key rings by Barba-Rossa, etc. The products are on sale at different points on the island.
The video has been produced thanks to the collaboration of Menorca Illa Audiovisual and Ross Preto Productions, the artist Magda Triay, the craftswoman Júlia Triay of Artespai, the fisherman Oriol Riera, the Fishermen’s Guilds of Ciutadella and Fornells, Ports de Balears and the Foundation for People with Disabilities of Menorca.
The video is available on Menorca Preservation’s YouTube channel, in Spanish (https://youtu.be/P-I1k7MBfiE), subtitled in Catalan (https://youtu.be/4kqD-OIZnhU) and subtitled in English (https://youtu.be/QxNrtr_mi84).
