El Faro de Cala Torret restaurant goes one step further in its commitment to sustainability

The installation of 20 solar panels and a water purification system to eliminate all plastic bottles from the establishment have been some of its most ambitious projects

El Faro de Cala Torret Restaurant, in line with its sustainability policy, has made significant improvements in the last year, such as the installation of 20 solar panels to produce green energy and supplement the restaurant’s energy needs. It has also intensified its efforts to reduce single-use plastics and has increased its consumption of Km0 products. In 2021, they installed a modern and efficient water purification system, thereby eliminating all plastic bottles served in the restaurant.

Certainly, El Faro is the perfect example that every action adds up, and although it can sometimes be laborious, they are aware that the benefits of this type of change in the processes and products used are much more important. No wonder they have managed to eliminate 2,875 single-use plastics from their business, implementing -among other improvements- the elimination of bricks from their kitchen, decaffeinated coffee capsules, straws in their drinks, etc. And they have continued to promote the use of local products to support the local sector, promoting and recovering traditional Menorcan recipes. All these measures have allowed them to achieve 4 stars in the Plastic Free Balearics Certification, whose maximum rating is 5 stars, in addition to the certification of the Menorca Biosphere Reserve Certification, which they already had.

In addition, in the search for environmentally friendly alternatives, the restaurant has been supported by the Plastic Free Menorca Alliance, which focuses on supporting and accompanying entities involved in this process, as well as promoting local actions to reduce plastic pollution.

El Faro is very committed to the environmental initiatives taking place on the island, and this year has renewed its collaboration with Menorca Preservation through a new donation of €1,000 that the entity will use to finance projects focused on the preservation of Menorca’s natural environment. It also contributes financially to the 0 plastic Menorca movement.

Living in Menorca is a privilege. At El Faro de Cala Torret we are very clear that we must be sustainable, in order to contribute to maintaining the island’s territory, culture and gastronomy”.
