Learn Through Surfing returns to Menorca’s most natural beaches
For the fifth consecutive season, schoolchildren from across Menorca will take part in the Learn Through Surfing project, run by the non-profit environmental association Surf and Clean, with the support of the Spanish Surfing Federation, the Consell Insular de Menorca and Menorca Preservation, in collaboration with local organisations Paddle Tour Menorca and Surf & Sail Menorca.
Thanks to this project, over 550 students from 12 schools across the island will learn to develop a deeper connection with themselves, their peers, and the natural environment.

Algaiarens and Son Xoriguer: Natural Beaches Hosting the Activities
David Blanco, national coordinator of the initiative, explains: “One of the key aims of the programme is to strengthen our connection with the sea, especially as people living on an island. For this reason, it’s important that students are able to enjoy and experience some of Menorca’s most unspoilt beaches. Because it’s there that they can close their eyes and listen, smell, and feel the environment around them. It’s there that it becomes easier to understand that the beach is an ancient, dynamic place that we share with other living beings. A place worth protecting.”
Teachers Also Take an Active Role in the Beach Sessions
In addition, the activities are supported by teachers, who take an active part in the outdoor sessions: “The programme is centred around cooperation among students, avoiding competitiveness. It also includes environmental awareness activities, such as encouraging plastic collection or explaining what to do when encountering a stranded animal on the shore,” says one of the teachers from CEIP Mestre Duran who took part in the activity during the 2023–24 academic year.
