BEACHCLEAN Menorca launching event. Join us next 15th September in Cala Es Murtar

BEACHCLEAN MENORCA has joined forces with PER LA MAR VIVA to work together in the launch event that will take place on the 15th.  The first Beachclean Menorca event will coincide with the World Clean Day on September 15, 2018. A great gathering of people, friends and family, young and old, to unite the 150 countries and 17 million people around the world who will clean up the planet that day. After some research activities we have chosen to carry out the launch event at ES MURTAR (Mahón) de 8 : 00 am at 2:00 p.m. You can volunteer until September 7 to be a Beach Volunteer or Beach Organizer by sending an email or WhatsApp with your name, email, phone number and area to  beachcleanmenorca@gmail.com or Beachclean Ambassadors: Peter Martin +44 7989 578521 and Sarah Folley 07979 517806.

PER LA MAR VIVA

This assosiation has been supported since its inception by MEPF in coastal cleanup activities and educational work. They have achieved enormous results, have collected up to 3,000 kilograms in their coastal cleaning activities in the area of Ciutadella and Ferreríes and have gathered crucial information on what materials are generally found in our coastal areas and what could be the causes of the problem we have with the plastics finishing on our coasts. BEACHCLEAN MENORCA is pleased to support the coastal cleanup in the Areas of Mahon and has begun to coordinate its launching activity with PER LA MAR VIVA.

BEACHCLEAN MENORCA AMBASSADORS

Peter Martin and Sarah Folley, both with a long passion for Menorca, came together to form Beachclean Menorca that has the support of the MEPF. Motivated by the highly publicized, implacable worldwide problem of plastic in our oceans, they have the mission of mobilizing a working group composed of volunteer beach cleaners and volunteer beach organizers, to help clean the plastic and other waste from our beautiful coast of Menorca. Both Peter and Sarah have a background in organizing events and charitable fundraising, so they form a formidable team to motivate and attract people of all ages and nationalities to this worthy cause.

The idea of gathering a team to clean up some areas of Menorca arose after they both became aware of the impact of plastic on the beaches, a problem that was repeated wherever they went from Thailand to the Camí de Cavalls. When they found out of the work of the MEPF suggested that the initiative should be part of it to carry out the task on a larger scale, coordinated with other initiatives and more sustainable. When they discovered that the work of the FMPM suggested that the initiative should be part of it to carry out the task on a
much larger and sustainable escale and to coordinate with other ongoing initiatives (like PER LA MAR VIVA).
Educating residents and tourists, restaurants, supermarkets and suppliers in alternatives to single-use plastics continues in the background, being complementary to initiatives such as #ProyectoMenorca, promoted by the MEPF that would work to help tackling the problem.

From Beachclean Menorca we hope that our activities impact the community to minimize the use of plastic and encourage each person in Menorca to collect their own garbage (and other people’s) from any part of our beautiful island and throw it away in a garbage container appropriate.

A huge get together of friends and family, young and old, to join 150 countries and 17 million people worldwide who will be cleaning the planet on that day. But don’t worry if you miss this day, there will be more!

“We are aware that our Local Councils and other groups do much to keep our beautiful island clean – but they are hugely under resourced and need the support of residents, non-residents and visitors alike”. BEACHCLEAN AMBASSADORS
