Role summary
Menorca Preservation (MeP) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Executive Director to lead the foundation’s strategy, fundraising and partnerships, governance, and overall management.
The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of MeP’s operations and programmes, ensuring the foundation delivers measurable impact for the conservation and restoration of Menorca’s natural environment. This includes leading on income generation, stakeholder engagement, and organisational development.
The role is supported by the Chair, Patronato, and Steering Committee, as well as by the Conservation Collective (CC) — a global network of local philanthropic funds focused on protecting, preserving and restoring nature. CC was a co-founder of MeP and continues to provide strategic guidance and operational support via its UK-based team.
We are looking for a proactive, highly organised leader with an entrepreneurial approach, strong fundraising experience, and a deep commitment to Menorca’s environment.

Essential qualities
- Proactive and highly organised, with an entrepreneurial and strategic mindset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of Menorca’s local context, including key environmental stakeholders and NGOs.
- Proven leadership experience and strong fundraising credentials.
- Fluency in Catalan, Spanish and English (spoken and written).
Main responsibilities
1) Fundraising and partnerships
- Secure and diversify MeP’s income streams, focusing on core funding and programme budgets.
- Work closely with the Patronato, Steering Committee, and CC to attract new major donors connected to Menorca.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing donors and supporters, ensuring high retention and satisfaction.
- Identify and pursue institutional or large grant funding opportunities aligned with MeP’s strategy.
- Cultivate partnerships with local and international businesses, assessing alignment and reputational risks.
- Organise and promote fundraising events with support from the team and local partners.
2) Strategy development and programme oversight
- Lead the development and implementation of MeP’s 2026–2030 strategy, ensuring alignment with local environmental priorities.
- Identify, develop and support high-impact projects that address key conservation challenges.
- Provide guidance to potential grantees throughout the project design and application process.
- Oversee and evaluate ongoing grants, ensuring accurate reporting to the Steering Committee and donors.
- Foster collaboration between stakeholders, including NGOs, research institutions and local authorities.
- Represent MeP externally, building alliances and influencing relevant policy discussions.
3) Operational and organisational management
- Oversee all foundation operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and alignment with MeP’s mission.
- Manage financial planning, budgets, and reporting with the support of the internal team and external advisors.
- Lead and supervise MeP team, ensuring a positive and efficient working environment.
- Identify HR and capacity needs and propose solutions in line with the operational budget.
- Use internal IT systems (supported by CC) to track fundraising, grants, and administrative processes. (Salesforce)
4) Governance and compliance
- Coordinate quarterly Patronato and Steering Committee meetings (agenda, documentation, minutes).
- Liaise with the local Advisors to ensure sound scientific and local input into funding decisions.
- Ensure MeP complies with all Spanish legal requirements for registered charities, including financial and administrative reporting.
Candidate profile
Education and experience
- University degree in Environmental Sciences, Management, International Development, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of professional experience, including direct leadership responsibility within a non-profit, foundation or similar organisation.
- Proven track record of fundraising success, including major donors and institutional funders.
- Experience in strategy development, project oversight, and partnership management.
- Strong understanding of the environmental sector, preferably within the Balearic Islands or Mediterranean context.
- Fluency in Spanish, Catalan and English (both written and spoken).
Technical skills
- Strong financial and operational management skills, including budget oversight and reporting.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to inspire and influence diverse stakeholders.
- Confident in CRM and project management systems (e.g., Salesforce) and office tools (SharePoint, MS Office Suite).
- Experience in event coordination and public speaking will be valued.
