Coordinator – Isla del Aire Marine Reserve Forum

The Isla del Aire Marine Reserve Forum is an initiative led by Menorca Preservation to promote participatory governance of the Isla del Aire Marine Reserve. It brings together public authorities, NGOs, scientists, businesses, and local residents to identify challenges, propose actions, and advance marine conservation through dialogue, awareness-raising, and active community engagement.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Location: Alaior and Sant Lluís (Menorca)
  • Contract duration: One year, with the possibility of extension depending on available funding
  • Start date: 1 September 2026 (or earlier, if possible)
  • Working hours: Part-time or full-time, depending on the candidate’s profile (30–40 hours per week)
  • Schedule: Flexible, with availability and adaptability required
  • Gross annual salary: €30,300 for a full-time position

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Environmental Sciences, Marine Sciences, Biology, or related field.
  • Experience in environmental projects and/or citizen participation initiatives.
  • Strong coordination and networking skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in the design, management, and reporting of projects funded through public or private grants.
  • Excellent communication and diplomacy skills, both for public outreach and for facilitating collaboration across sectors, including moderating and facilitating participatory processes.
  • Fluency in Catalan, Spanish, and English.
  • Valid driving licence and own vehicle.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of marine protected area management and challenges.
  • Familiarity with the Menorca context, particularly regarding environmental policies, the fisheries sector, and marine conservation.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement the governance strategy for the Isla del Aire Marine Reserve.
  • Foster participation and cooperation among the different stakeholders involved, including fishers, public authorities, environmental organisations, the tourism sector, and local residents.
  • Organise and coordinate meetings and events, including the 3rd Isla del Aire Marine Reserve Forum, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, and monitor the implementation of the resulting agreements and commitments.
  • Promote, co-design, and monitor proposals, projects, and management improvement actions in coordination with the Forum and the relevant public authorities across its different areas of work, including environmental education, regulations, scientific monitoring, surveillance, and others.
  • Ensure that the Forum’s proposals and agreements are grounded in scientific knowledge, local knowledge, and environmental needs.
  • Support the identification and development of additional funding opportunities to ensure the continuity of the project, working together with the rest of the Menorca Preservation team.
