Her name brings together two words that reflect her essence: Alai, meaning “joyful” in Basque, and Zimmermann, “carpenter” in German.
She lives and creates in the Menorcan countryside, where every object, space, and experience she crafts is an act of experimentation, creativity, and deep respect for nature. She’s inspired by the seasons, the subtle shifts in the landscape, the unique traits of each species, and the gentle rhythms of the natural world. She works with what the land offers, guided by a thoughtful gaze and a desire to connect beauty with meaning.

A Day with SOM Menorca’s Bird Ringing Experts & Picnic by Pipet Café (for 8 people)
STARTING BID: 600€

Join the expert ornithologists of the Ornithological Society of Menorca (SOM Menorca) during their Migratory bird ringing campaign on the Isla del Aire held between 1st April and 15th of May 2026— a unique opportunity to witness first-hand one of the most important migratory scientific studies of migratory birds in Menorca, ongoing for over 30 years.
Learn about the fascinating journeys of migratory birds as they pass through the islet, understand the environmental relevance of this work, and enjoy privileged access to a protected natural area.
The experience concludes with a delicious picnic for eight, courtesy of Pipet Café — a much-loved café in Maó known for its homemade cakes, delicious breakfasts, and creative drinks.
In the words of last year’s winning bidders of this experience: “Thank you and all your team for an excellent day at the Illa de l’Aire. Beautiful weather, plenty of ringing and very committed volunteers — we learnt a lot. Visiting a project like that is a perfect (and unusual) auction prize for the Menorca Preservation Gala.”
This experience includes:
- Private boat transfer to and from Isla del Aire for 8 people (departing from the Port of Mahón)
- Guided visit and introduction to the bird ringing campaign by SOM ornithologists
- Gourmet picnic for 8 people, prepared by Pipet Café
- Availability: between 1st April and 15th of May 2026. Subject to prior reservation and weather conditions.
The Migratory birds Study at the Illa de l’Aire it’s an annual study focused on the spring migration of birds through the Mediterranean Sea, highlighting the importance of small islands for their survival. The islet is a place of “utmost importance” for the conservation of these species. In 2024, the campaign showed a significant decrease in the number of birds tagged and species registered, with a drop of more than 44% compared to the historical averages of the study, which has been ongoing since 1995. The team of experts suggests this could be related to the effects of climate change, such as the lack of rainfall in the Sahel and heatwaves at the end of winter 2024. Therefore, they consider it essential to protect and preserve the small Mediterranean islands, like the Isla del Aire, as “places of utmost importance” for the conservation of small migratory birds, as well as continuing to fund research studies to have reliable and accurate data on the potential effects of climate change on these natural environments.
Bury Your Hands in the Sweet Side of Menorca: A Pastry Workshop with Marisa at Algendaret Nou, a Custodia Agraria farm (for 4 people)
Join a delightful 3-hour experience crafting traditional Menorcan pastries at a pioneering family-run ecological farm
STARTING BID: 400€

At Algendaret Nou, Marisa — a multi-talented woman who, among many tasks such as maturing cheeses, curing sobrasadas, and administration and sales — will guide you through the secrets of Menorcan baking. Together with her husband, Raül, she manages this inspiring farm in Maó, where Raül’s parents, Nofre and Xisca, were among the first on the island to embrace organic certification over 30 years ago.
The farm is a lively haven for native breeds of cows and sheep, and also goats, pigs, and chickens, all part of a sustainable, holistic approach that includes carefully managed grazing and in-house preparation of natural bioproducts — turning farm “waste” into valuable new resources.
During this special workshop for up to four guests, you’ll tour the farm, meet the family, and see how they care for the animals and their diverse crops. Under Marisa’s expert guidance, you’ll then craft delicious pastries to take home. The GOB Menorca team will also share insights about the vital work of their Custodia Agraria programme, which champions sustainable farming and biodiversity.
Please note: Participants should bring an appetite for learning and a spirit of sharing — and be ready to get their hands a little floury!
Practical information:
- Availability: Valid for one year from the Menorca Preservation Summer Fundraising Gala (17 July 2025).
- Booking: Minimum 15 days’ notice required.
- Recommended dates: Best months are February and March; October and November are also suitable (goats are just being born!). Summer is not recommended due to the heat.
Algendaret Nou was one of the first farms in Menorca to experiment with organic farming, back when the idea was still a novelty on the island. Beyond following organic principles, the family has embraced local vegetable varieties and native livestock breeds such as the “vermella” cow and black pig. Their cow’s milk cheese is one of their most prized products. Over time, Raül and Marisa have proven that diverse, environmentally friendly farming is not only possible, but thriving. Since 2023, they’ve expanded to include an artisan workshop with an industrial oven, where they bake bread and rolls (including gluten-free options), as well as traditional Menorcan pastries and cakes.
A farm stewardship programme that supports the primary sector by promoting responsible and sustainable land management. Participating farms commit to nature-friendly agricultural practices. In return, GOB provides sup-port through advice, volunteer activities, pro-motion, and training. The project, which has been supported by Menorca Preservation since 2019, now includes 40 farms that have joined the programme.
